Video Clip of my Birth (1968)
Here is the clip I was referring to in the post below... It's only 4 1/2 minutes long & doesn't show anything too graphic since it was filmed 39 years ago. Notice how tan my mom was- she had been at the beach all day! It's so neat to have video of my parents from so long ago- I still can't believe how young they were when I was born. My mom was only 20, and my dad was 22!

Shana, That's awesome!! Your mom is a beauty. I can't believe they had her get up and off the table, handed you to her and then she walks off!! Please tell me she went & laid down for a while after that.
Shari, I'll have to ask her- but knowing my mom, she probably went dancing or something- lol! Also- remember, she was only 20 (half my age... omg)!
:)
Wow...that is special to have that and the memories that go with it.
What a fantastic keepsake!
Cool! I was amazed too at the ending, where she just hops off the table and walks away into parenthood! What an amazing thing to have for someone of our generation, not too many of us have films of our births.
WOW!!! Very cool video. Your mom is so cute. I love when she said, "That's my baby!" right after you came out. :) I, too, am amazed that she hopped off the table right after birth. Are you hiding something from us? Is she really Wonder Woman? ;)
Thanks for sharing,
M
I was wondering if she was wonder woman too! She looks beautiful, didn't look like she was in too much pain while delivering, and then got right off the table and walked off! Amazing! Beautiful family!!!
And off she walks?????? Geez! :)
Hi Shana,
everything is so exciting to me and reminds me when I was pregnant with my kids...
to bad that the video is not availabe right now... it is always a miracle to see a child be born... and I would love to see your birth...
Warm regards
Andrea
That is so incredible to see - you are so lucky to have this record of your birth! I, too, am cracking up at your Mom walking off with you! That would NEVER be allowed today for liability reasons! Thanks so much for sharing. So are you planning a Bradley birth?
What an incredible video. You are so lucky to have this awesome video. Your Mom amazed me.
Thanks so much for sharing your video with us. You looked like a very healthy baby.
How awesome to have that!
And the walk off? Was that for show? (by the filming concept)
Your mom was so young ... very pretty girl!
Thanks for sharing this.
That was just remarkable. I have seen many films of births... but oh my, I have NEVER seen anyone recover so quickly as your mom. She was so cute! (You were too!) I am older than you, so my mother was actually under a general anesthetic when I was born, and my dad wasn't allowed to be there with her. I have given birth four times, and adopted once. Physically, it is different, but the emotions were EXACTLY the same. I asked my husband, and he agreed. Your mom will be a great souce of comfort and help, I am sure. That was really something!
You are blessed to have that! It's amazing to see how easy your mom made it look. Oh, and yeah, your dad was a hottie!!! It's kind of freaky how Oliie bear looks like him!
Leaving it anonymous for obvious reasons!!! :)
That is such an amazing keepsake. Your mom is amazing and the apple does not fall far from the tree. I know that it has already been mentioned but how did your mom get up and walk away like that. I have given birth and I did not want to walk anywhere right away..LOL
OK, your mom is gorgeous - your dad is a hottie. No wonder your so beautiful!
What a cool thing to have.
My parents have 8 kids and I was the only one my dad was in the delivery room for...YOU have it on film!
That is one of the easiest births I have ever witnessed (and I have seen a few!) Your parents were amazing... Mom so calm and focused and Dad so supportive. Wow! I hope yours goes even half as great as that.
Shana, what an amazing video to have! And to see her so energetic after her "nap", push her beautiful baby out, nurse then off she goes is like a dream birth! I can see where you got your smile!
Shana,
Oh my that's you being born!
Your mom is so tan! What an amazing experience and so speacial to have it saved for you....
Take care,
Anna
Ha!
Shana
you are only 12 days older than my little sister....
You aren't old...I am !!!!
;)
Anna
Shana that is so incredible! What a treasure! I just love how your mom just gets up and takes you and walks out with a smile on her face. I wish things were like that still in hospitals. I'm sure you will be just like your mom and have a wonderful birth.
Shana
That was so beautiful. I still can't beleive she just walk out of that room. Labour doesn't look so bad from how she did it!!!! Is your mom coming in with you?
Bobbie
That was the coolest thing I have ever seen! How wonderful to have that film! Your mom looked amazing! I hope she is planning to be with you when you give birth! What a miracle!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh Shana
That is so awesome. How do you feel watching it, watching that baby and knowing it is you? I cannot imagine! Thank you for sharing that. I have to say, your parents are very goodlooking! They look so happy together. Are they still together?
Debbie
Shana, How awesome to have such a precious keepsake!!! Your mother is gorgeous too, like you! How sweet the video is!!
Yes please tell us she laid there for awhile, but then again she was only 20!!!
Debbie
I am so happy I checked your blog today! That video was absolutely beautiful! I've seen your mom on here in pics and she is just beautiful but I can't believe how thin she was! Lucky girl mom! I was thin like that before pregnancy! HA HA I had to have alot of steroids throughout pregnancy for certain complications- so I gained 80 lbs. Still losing the weight and my son is 20 months. Steroid weight is very hard to shed. UGH! And she pushed for such a short time!!! (I will not tell you how long I pushed! you'll cry. :o)) And then she just hopped up and walked with you in her arms! And you were just SO pretty!!! Still are!
How amazing to have this video! Thank you so much for sharing. I cry at every video I watch of birth- and I cried to this. It is just such a beautiful event. I am so excited for you to experience it!
XOXOXO
Wow! What a strong woman your Mom is. She made it look so easy!!!!!
Wow! She's my inspiration! Thats awesome to have it filmed to look back on.
*Tell your mama she still looks very young & beautiful! :)
That is so amazing! She made it look so simple! I love how she hopped up and I love how little chaos seemed to be in the room (so few people). My how times have changed! Now they don't even let you get right up even if you want to! Thanks for sharing - that is such an incredible piece of your history to have!
That was so amazing! Then she gets up and walks off carrying you!?!?!? That is great!! What an amazing lady your mother is!! You are blessed!!
;-)
Holy moly! That is so cool. My SIL walked by herself into the recovery room after having my niece and I thought "wow this woman is my hero." Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow that is so so neat!!! Your mom is beautiful...so tiny! I am also amazed at how she just got right up off that table...wow!
Good luck to you and your delivery!!!
Loved the video- I agree, your mom is wonder woman!
I have a somewhat unrelated question for you- how do you pronounce your name.......I've always wondered if it's "Shay-na" or "Shaw-na" or "Shan-na"?
Just curious!
Thanks. Megan
Hey Megan!
It's Shana like Banana! :)
Thanks for the kind words!
Shana :)
K,
Thanks! Yes, I actually have that book! I haven't read then entire thing though- Oh how I wish I had more time for reading all these pregnancy / breastfeeding books!
Thanks for pointing that out- it makes sense!
Shana :)
Shana,I can't get over it!!!!That was sooo cool!:)
Are you going to make a nice video ,too?If you are..it will be nice if you could share it with us.:))
Kisses
OMG...I can not believe they just handed you to her and she gets up and walks away..that was pretty funny!! She looked GREAT (not like she just had a baby:)
We need a post from your mom saying where they made her walk to..lol
How nice to have a video like this. Your mom has not changed at all.
Shana,
That is so incredible that you have that. i actually laughed when she hopped off the table...I was thinking NO WAY! I could not feel my legs for hours let alone get up and walk...but alas I did have the epidural;) And I am glad I did...it made the whole thign very pleasant and lovely.
Like the others---I am suspecting you mom is Wonder Woman.
Kim
This is neat to see again! I saw it at a Doula training. Very cool!
Hi Shana,
This is such an amazing video clip of your birth! It is so special to see yourself being born: How your mom exclaimed when she finally sees you... How she lovingly put you to her breast... this is so touching! And it is so amazing also to see yourself crying that 1st cry. You look "long" for a newborn, more than 50cm must be. Such long and slender legs and hands. You are BEAUTIFUL even as a baby :) It is just SO COOL! Thanks for sharing.
Ohhhhhhh Shana, I feel like I know you so much better now. (for some reason) I am just amazed by seeing that! How wonderful to have this.... she loved you so much from that very first moment, what a treasure!
I am at a loss for words here ~
so glad you shared this ~
love to you sweet baby girl,
Betsy
Incredible video and what a wonderful keepsake for you. ; )
Too cool!! How neat it must be to watch that and realize that it's you being born. Kinda surreal. What a treasure this video and the stories that go with it.
Hats off to your mom hopping off the delivery table like that. WOW! I'm adopting and considering asking for an epidural! LOL!!
Beautiful!!!
That is incredible. You are so lucky to have that footage -- you all are!
I am especially impressed how your mom just walks off holding her baby (YOU!) like it was no big deal. She is superwoman.
Less than 100 days until you will have this experience. You must be so excited!
That is a great video. She is so cute and I love the fact she was able to just walk away holding you. Your Dad is cute too.
Tell you mom that I hate how FLAT her tummy was when she's getting off the table - that is stinking AMAZING! I looked pregnant for a couple of months afterwards!
Shana - this is priceless, absolutely priceless - you are a beauty just like your fabulous mom! DId she really just get uyp and walk off like that, she makes me look like a GIANT wimp if that was the case:)
Thank you so much for sharing such personal footage, it is amazing.
Heather
Wow, that's amazing! What a precious gift to have. I am absolutely amazed that she was able to get up and walk right afterwards. I couldn't walk for about a week - no joking. I was SO sore.
I'm a lurker- I found your blog last year when we were considering an adoption from Guatemala.
Anyway- that video is amazing! How great it is to see what birth was like back when we were born- times sure have changed!
Your family is beautiful, I am excited to see your great photos when the new baby comes.
Take Care!
Wow shana what a fantastic video. Your mum did fantastic. You are both so lucky to have this on video. what great memories.
Shana, I think you should have your mom post about her experience that day. How amazing!
I haven't experienced birth, but the first thing I thought of was no way is she just getting up off the table!I just couldn't imagine! That is so cool for you to have that!
HOW CRAZY! I can't get over her getting up and walking! I loved having my baby, but I had drugs! More power to you if you do the Bradley method-my girlfriend did it and loved it! I'm not that brave. Do you feel pressure to do it that way since your mom is such a pioneer?
I cannot believe this video! When my oldest (15 1/2) was born (I was 20!) A friend told me about the Bradley method! I was so excited but he was breech and came via C-section! I did V-BAC with the next! What an incredible piece of your history to cheerish! Your life just cracks me up! I smile every time I read another post! You are very blessed. I'll be praying about the bed rest. Please stay focused on the kitten, Sophie and Ollie will be so happy when she is here healthy and Mommy is back up and around and until then they'll be just fine! Did I mention how much my little Leah resembles Sophie? Their not from the same province but they favor each other a bit! Happy thoughts and mommy hugs coming your way from KY!
Kerri
Amazing, and what a treasure to have! I am only 1 1/2 years older than you and having been born in a military hospital in Taiwan in 1967 believe me when I say my mom's experiences was SO much different! LOL
That being said, take heart in knowing that most deliveries aren't like what you see in the movies. My 2nd delivery was so smooth and easy that I, too, got up off of the table and carried my baby boy out of the room! No pain blockers during delivery I SWEAR helped me to be totally 'in the zone'...of course I probably was able to walk out of the room because someone was promising me some heavy-duty pain meds in a room nearby! LOL
Thanks for sharing!
OMG, your mother looked WAY more beautiful giving birth than I think I looked on my wedding day...Both of them! =)
How fantastic to have such a video! It's remarkable they allowed your father in the room, much less to have a video be aloowed to be taken! I am just less than 3 months younger than you.
Shana,
I am catching up on peoples blogs and I remember seeing this film when I did my Bradley training 18 years ago!! I have since switched to LaMaze, but that is a different story. I know your doula very well and you are in great hands. I am so happy for you.
(Addie's mom, adopted March 2006.)
Awesome! I am a friend of your Mom's (she was my doula for #3). I've heard of this video for years but hadn't seen it yet. Thanks for sharing it. It was soooo very neat seeing her do this. Yes, you can get up and walk away like that, I did it three times ;-)
OMG ...that was amazing,,,i just want to know what was the time laps?? LOL i've had four and can't believe she got off the table and walked off with you!!amazing!
thanks for sharing
